Thanks for 2011! It’s soon time to summarize the past year and look forward to a new one after a short but much needed break.

We continue our tradition not to give any Christmas presents. This year we instead support the Vi Agroforestry Programme (www.viskogen.se/English) - a Swedish Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that runs six projects around Lake Victoria in Africa.

You can plant a tree too if you want to!

It's summer and time for some relaxation - and to review all the tips on programs and apps that came in during the spring. We want to take the opportunity to share some of our favourites to work smarter and more effective.

Dropbox

A web based storage service where you can share files and documents with others - and always reach the information from your computer, mobile or tablet. Free up to 2 GB per user. Easier to use than ordinary server solutions since the documents are stored in normal folders on the computer and the synchronization is done automatically.

Evernote

One step towards the paperless office? Evernote is an app to keep track of your notes and available for e.g. Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android. Many smart functions such as send e-mails directly to the notebook, store sound recordings, quickly take snapshots of a web page and take pictures. And everything (including the photos) is then searchable in Evernote.

Wunderlist

An easy but smart to-do-list with several list views, priorities and reminders. Available for most platforms. Also possible to share lists so that several people can add new activities - and tick them off when they are done.

Companies need to adapt their communications plans as they expand to different countries. Though the world is becoming ever smaller and inter-connected, differences in cultural and business practices still abound.

France, and Paris in particular, has a thriving start-up scene with a lively entrepreneurial community. But there are major differences between the Parisian and the Silicon Valley start-up communities.

Thanks for 2010! It's soon time to turn off the lights, light up the candles and take a couple of days off during the Christmas' and New Year's break.

As in previous years, we have chosen not to give away any Christmas presents. Instead we make a donation to the Swedish foundation for children with diabetes (www.barndiabetesfonden.se) that supports research to prevent, cure or relieve diabetes among children and youth.

The foundation "Barndiabetesfonden" is dependent on voluntary contributions from individuals, companies and organisations. Please make a contribution if you have the possibility!

Two German PR-Awards for Oriella-Partner

Last friday the 40th award ceremony of "Internationaler Deutscher PR-Preis", one the of mayor German PR awards, took place in the "Kurhaus of Wiesbaden", Germany.

Ultimate highlight of the evening was the speach of Joachim Gauck, one of the candidates for President of Germany in the 2010 election, who was awarded "Communicator of the year".

Besides, the German Oriella partner Fink & Fuchs Public Relations could also win the awards in two major categories:

Internationaler Deutscher PR-Preis Press- and Mediarelations for the campaign "Digital Classroom - Microsoft shows education of the future", Microsoft Deutschland (a joint project with Fischer-Appelt, Helliwood and Infokontor)
Internationaler Deutscher PR-Preis Technology/ Science/ Research for the longterm campaign "Intelligent Energy Grids", Cisco Systems Germany

A study of the changing nature of journalism worldwide

In May and June 2010, the Oriella PR Network carried out a survey of over 750 journalists in 15 countries to see how digital media has changed the nature of news-gathering. The study finds that journalists are gradually acclimatising to the pressures of juggling the demands of web and print media.

Our third survey uncovers growing uncertainty over the future of print titles and increased interest in paid-content models. Over fifty per cent of the journalists surveyed believe their titles will shift to online-only. Meanwhile, publications are experimenting with smartphone apps, micro-payments and paid e-reader content to boost online revenues.

For the first time, the survey includes responses from publications in Eastern Europe, the US and Brazil - a genuinely international endeavour.
